What does it mean to relax in Tai Chi? It isn’t only about releasing physical “tension”. It is also about not “tensing” the mind. In Tai Chi we call this state of relaxation “Song”. Tai Chi trains our bodies and minds to move with ease. As we practice Tai Chi we notice that when we tense our bodies that our minds are tense as well or conversely when our mind is tense so is our body. Song is a concept that promotes a state of alertness and expansion. It promotes a quiet mind. This translates into increased vitality and energy.
